Purpose of SCC

The State Central Committee is the governing body of the Illinois Democratic Party. One male and one female are elected from each congressional district. It is a volunteer position with the party. SCC members vote on things such as:

  • The chair and officers of the state party
  • The DNC members who will represent Illinois in the national party
  • Electors
  • Endorsements
  • Changes to party rules and bylaws
  • Filling vacancies for certain elected positions
  • Platform and resolutions to be presented to delegates of state convention
  • Other preparations for state convention

SCC members serve their district by:

  • Being the liaison between the state party and local parties in their district
  • Helping candidates get elected
  • Recruiting candidates to run for office
