My name is Art Bardsley, and I’m running for Winnebago County Board District 17. I’ve been married for 38 years and have three adult children. I’m semi-retired while currently working part time in the local freight transportation industry. I grew up in Chicago and moved to Loves Park in 2003. I became politically aware and active in 2008 after the housing market and economy crashed thanks in part to the repeal of various banking regulations throughout the 1990’s and early part of this century.
I was initially intrigued by the Tea Party movement in 2010 but quickly realized that movement was doomed to failure as it was slowly taken over by the very establishment and corporate entities so many were upset towards. Two years later the Occupy Wall Street movement started. After a couple rallies and despite what the media was saying I knew OWS was for me and began to help build the local Occupy Rockford offshoot.
Since then I became an elected Precinct Committeeman (PC) for Harlem District 10 within the Winnebago County Democratic Party and for a time was the 2nd Vice-Chair. I ran for State Central Committee for the Illinois Democratic Party in the 16th Congressional district, have volunteered for candidates like David Soll for county board, Neill Mohammed for Congress and Daniel Biss for governor.
I am currently a volunteer for Bernie Sanders creating such events as BerniePalooza in Rockford and taking part in various canvassing events within our and the surrounding counties. And now I want to bring my passion and grassroots progressive ideals and help bring some sanity and decency to our county board. Something it has lacked for several years now. With outside the box solutions like a countywide public bank and good old fashion listening to the people instead of small business interests that with your help we can start to bring hopefulness and pride back to our county.
